About the Job:

This Leadership position will be responsible for developing and refining enterprise-wide sourcing strategies for all Energy categories (i.e. Fuel, Electricity and Natural Gas as well as other utility services) related to our production processes. In addition to the day-to-day ownership of the strategic management of the Company's electricity sourcing efforts, this role plays a vital role in the Company's ESG strategy on implementing cost-effective solutions that also lowers the carbon intensity of our energy sourcing. Success of this role will consistently be measured as a function of minimizing supply and pricing risk across our energy categories by partnering with approved vendors, proactively identifying areas of opportunities, implementing process and cost improvement measures and constant engagement with the industry on new technology developments that could be recommended and pursued to meet future Company objectives. Further, this role will serve as the subject matter expertise on regulated and deregulated electric and natural gas market and rate design, renewable electricity and battery storage. Works closely with Operation personnel, Division Leadership and Senior Leadership to get input into sourcing strategies and decisions for today and tomorrow while coordinating with our Regional Sourcing teams to implement projects.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead Strategic Sourcing efforts for energy categories (i.e. fuel, electricity, natural gas, waste and water) across the Enterprise in both regulated and deregulated energy markets.
  • Direct current and future renewable energy projects by leading the analysis and negotiation of new projects, coordinating and communicating status and project updates internally and ensuring appropriate contractual terms are met on time and on budget.
  • Responsible for the development and performance management of the Energy Sourcing team and setting a vision and strategy for our future Energy sourcing needs.
  • Development of the Company's long-term renewable energy roadmap and creating buy-in with stakeholders within in the Company.
  • Leverage data analytics team to provide actionable financial and operational insights to our internal stakeholders that can provide cost savings/avoidance opportunities to the business. Actionable insights are when results or knowledge gained from analytics is combined with understanding of the business situation to create a recommendation that can achieve a competitive advantage.
  • Engage on future site development opportunities to provide energy related expertise and support.
  • Provide technical training on electricity markets, rates and technical details for our internal teammates to Strategic Sourcing and our Operations personnel.
  • Other applicable duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree desirable.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in the Energy sector with in depth knowledge of energy markets strongly required.
  • Experience with electricity and natural gas markets (i.e. market design, rate design, market fundamentals, etc.).
  • Broad macro-level understanding of the global and domestic energy markets that can be put to use to inform strategic sourcing decisions across Vulcan's energy categories.
  • Working knowledge of renewables (solar and wind technologies) for both impacts to the market as well as the ability to analyze cost/benefit of self-generation opportunities for the Company.
  • Strong communicator; demonstrated track record of communicating complex topics to all levels of the organization in a succinct way.
  • Coach, motivator, and people developer that can clearly communicate a vision for the future state and sets stretch goals for self and team.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills, including the ability to communicate with multiple levels internal and external to the organization.
