Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers and designers in the development and support of Fall Protection as well as Head, Eye and Face protective equipment.
  • Direct the day-to-day activities of engineers and designers to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and support development of the team.
  • Conduct succession planning, including the identification of needed skillsets.
  • Think strategically about the organization structure and day to day function.
  • Be responsible and accountable for the quality of new product designs. Ensure that voice-of-the-customer requirements are identified and met.
  • Contribute to the establishment and monitoring of NPD goals, including time-to market, product cost versus target and project spending versus budget.
  • Monitor and enforce the application of project management tools, DFSS and NPD process discipline to meet project schedule, budgets, and customer requirements and to manage technical risks.
  • Support Global Steering Teams in the strategy development for new products. Be responsible for the estimation of engineering resources and budget in support of the development of annual NPD project portfolios. Advise the Global Steering Teams on issues of technical feasibility and time-to-market.
  • Allocate resources to effectively execute the project portfolio.
  • Prepare project reports for distribution to Executive management. Deliver oral presentations to a variety of internal and external customers and stakeholders. Effectively communicate technical issues to non-technical audiences.
  • Use appropriate methods and a flexible interpersonal style to help build a cohesive team; facilitating the completion of team goals.
  • Provide timely coaching and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem.
  • Plan and support the development of individuals' skills and abilities so that they can fulfill current or future job/role responsibilities more effectively.



Qualifications

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Proven ability to manage and lead NPD teams.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Proven track record in developing and launching new products on time and under budget while meeting or exceeding customer requirements.
  • Strong focus on customer fulfillment. Driven by completion of tasks to ensure our customers on-time delivery of new MSA products meeting or exceeding expectations.
  • Proven ability to understand and utilize state-of-the-art enabling technologies in materials, design and manufacturing processes in the development of innovative products.
  • Highly-developed interpersonal skills enabling collaboration with associates at all levels of MSA.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible with their time in order to effectively work with associates from multiple time zones and participate on global teams.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills are necessary for success.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for collaboration with other design centers and Operations locations, including international travel, is required. Total travel requirements will vary to as much as 25% of the time on an annual basis.

Education Required:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering with an ME minor or ME focus area from an ABET-accredited program required.

Experience Required:

  • This position is available at two different career levels based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education:
    • Level one: At least 8 years relevant experience required. At least 3 of these years should include experience in new product development/engineering project management.
    • Level two: At least 10 years relevant experience required. At least 3 of these years should include experience in new product development/engineering project management.
    • MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevant experience; PhD may be substituted for up to 4 years.

Preferred:

  • M.S. in Engineering or Masters in Business Administration.
  • PE preferred.
  • Experience working with global teams / global projects.
  • Experience leading or directly supervising others
