Job Summary

The Cardiac Cath Lab CV Technologist, utilizing specialized knowledge, provides clinical support and direction for diagnostic and interventional Cardiovascular procedures. Supports the procedureal team, scrubbing with the physician tableside or monitoring and documenting the case. Maintains compentency in each role, utilizing evidence-based pracitices and research consistent with Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist or Radiologic Technologist scope of practice. Performs procedures effectively during call back. Exercises appropriate judgement utilizing resources.

Accountabilities

  • PATIENT ASSESSMENT-.\u00A0 Gathers pertinent records needed for procedures such as: History and Physical, Lab reports, and Medication Record. Anticipates and/or predicts changes and modifies any care delivered to best meet the needs of the patient. Assists with direct patient pre-procedure assessment within scope of practice . This includes the following: assessment of the patient's medical and surgical history, ASA classification, NPO status, pertinent labs, and sedation plan with primary documentation. Notifies procedural\u00A0 of any missing information. Reports and documents findings\u00A0 Incorporates patient preferences, concerns, and special needs in procedure process.\u00A0\u00A0 Follows Infection Control policies and procedures on all patients.\u00A010%
  • CIRCULATING- May circulate with exception of medication administration - maintains safe working environment.\u00A0 Knows the location and use of emergency equipment. Demonstrated completion of annual departmental competencies. Performs inpatient/outpatient procedures\u00A0 with physician order.\u00A0 Operates applicable hospital equipment.\u00A0 Performs proper body mechanics.\u00A0 Takes immediate and appropriate action in life threatening emergencies and/ or crisis situations.\u00A0 .\u00A0 Knowledgeable of medications used during procedures and emergencies\u00A0 Adheres to radiation safety guidelines.\u00A0 Assures specimens are collected, handled properly, correctly labeled, and submitted to the appropriate department.\u00A0 Performs point of care testing.\u00A010%
  • COMMUNICATION- Communicates appropriately with hospital personnel, medical staff, patients, families, outside resources, and others verbally and in writing. Functions as a team player demonstrating willingness to help whenever necessary, displaying a positive image of the department and GHS. Utilizes SBAR communication tools.\u00A0 Is discrete in the use of confidential information per HIPPA.\u00A0 Reports errors/incidents/problems to appropriate personnel promptly and documents correctly in Event Reporting online system.\u00A0 Ensures physician is informed of all pertinent patient information. \u00A05%
  • Provides 24 hour coverage for any emergent cardiac procedure within a 30 minute window for STEMI. response.. \u00A05%
  • EDUCATION- Ensures that the patient understands and consents to procedures to be performed; contact physician performing procedure as needed.\u00A0 Performs education to increase patient and family knowledge.\u00A0 Ensures that the patient and family are well informed; fulling explaining time frames to family members.\u00A0 Implements and/or assists in patient education regarding procedures and health maintenance.\u00A0 Act as a resource person to other levels of staff.\u00A0 Maintains BLS/ACLS certification.\u00A0 Attends and participates in departmental staff meetings.\u00A0 Assumes responsibility for own continuing education, both formal and informal.\u00A0 Participates in development of self and other staff members.\u00A0 Attends scheduled departmental in-services. Completes CBTs and annual competencies in coordination with work schedule and checks email, bulletin boards for departmental/system-wide updates.\u00A010%
  • ORGANIZATIONAL SKILL- Demonstrates organizational ability by using time/equipment/resources effectively.\u00A0 If in Charge role -establishes daily procedure schedule in accordance with patient/procedure priorities and physician preferences.\u00A0 Recognizes/analyses/solves problems.\u00A0 Anticipates needs of physicians.\u00A0 Ensures that the daily schedule is carried out through individual or cooperative efforts.\u00A0 Exercises analytical judgement on work to be done.\u00A0 Keeps physicians, patients and families informed of any delays in schedule\u00A015%
  • EQUIPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES- Proper care and cleaning of patient equipment and all items in patient room.\u00A0 Maintenance and stocking of supplies for smooth operation of department.\u00A0 Cleans equipment properly and documents; notifies appropriate department for repair and removes from service and place note on equipment not functioning correctly.\u00A0 Provides for safe and continued operable equipment.\u00A0 Communicates issues such as damaged or missing cables to supervisor/manager.\u00A015%
  • SCRUB ROLE-Knowledgeable of all angiographic exam, interventional cardiology procedures, and the use of contrast agents.\u00A0 Knowledgeable of radiographic equipment operation and radiation safety.\u00A0 Knowledgeable of catheters, guidewires, balloon dilatation catheters, stents as well as other supplies.\u00A0 Knowledgeable of operation of physiological monitoring equipment and power injectors.\u00A0Obtains appropriate supplies and prepares room for patient. Access patient\u2019s condition and level of cooperation and makes appropriate judgment of proper care within scope of practice.\u00A0 Practices proper sterile technique.\u00A0 Conducts surgical scrub before invasive procedures. Wears appropriate protective covering (hat, mask, etc.)\u00A0 responds to codes and other emergency situations appropriately. Demonstrates proper technique for removal and management of arterial sheath.\u00A015%
  • HEMODYNAMIC MONITORING ROLE-responsible for accurate and timely documentation of events of the case. Interpretation and management of Hemodynamic monitoring. Anticipates potential issues and demonstrates clinical assessment and intervention, notifying physician and team of alterations in hemodynamics. Demonstrates accurate documentation of ACC data fields and charging of procedures. 15%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduate of a certificate or degree granting program or post-secondary educational program in a health science: \u00A0cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy or paramedic.

  • Current Credentials with ARRT for Radiologic Technologist or RCIS for CVT, RRT, \u00A0Paramedic

  • No previous CCL experience required. CCL experience highly preferred.
