Job Description

Please note that Remote work is available if you have 2+ years of experience preparing and filing Motor Fuels Tax returns in multiple states.


Responsible for set up of new accounts and added ship to's. Work closely with Tax leadership team to assist in training various members of the Tax team to ensure accurate set up in order to minimize the tax exposure to the organization. Gather required exemption documents, as well as research, interpret and apply Motor Fuel tax regulations to the account setup and tax return preparation processes. Analyze data for accurate billing and support to internal and external customers. The information gathered above will be used to determine the set up and taxability of the customers. This information will then be relayed to the team for return preparation. Must be knowledgeable of tax regulations at the federal, state and local level. Prepares various types of tax returns. Provide tax support and detail explanation to the business when needed.

Responsibilities

Coaching and Mentoring


  • Work with Tax Manager to assist in training other team members
  • Document tax reporting requirements

Tax Administration duties and return preparation


  • Research and Document Taxability in various states
  • Gather and Document necessary exemption requirements
  • Prepare tax returns in a timely and accurate manner
  • Staying abreast of tax law changes and understanding the impact on the company
  • Set up New Taxes in billing system as needed
  • Set up and document the process for setting up the taxability of customers
  • Learn and understand Both US and Canadian tax laws and reporting standards
  • Gather exemption documentation
  • Assist with the on boarding process to ensure accurate billing of taxes.

General Ledger Account Reconciliation


  • Reconcile general ledger accounts in a timely and accurate manner
  • Utilize excel to complete detailed analysis of general ledger accounts


Position Requirements

Education


  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting required.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Motor Fuels Excise Tax experience required
  • Petroleum / Energy Industry experience a must
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Suite or applications

Work Environment

  • Fully remote available if you have 2+ years of motor fuel tax experience.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components
