Position Summary
The Digital Marketing & Social Media Strategist position is the lead marketing and content strategist for the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences (CAES) and is a key member of the UGA College of Agricultural & Environmental Science's award-winning Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC) team.

This position will execute and drive reputation-elevating results through their communication campaigns and marketing projects and is a champion for various CAES audiences, both internal and external. This team member is a big-picture thinker and is responsible for both the long-term and day-to-day marketing plans and social media for CAES.

This position will identify target markets, determine and coordinate optimal strategies for the promotion of CAES content (digital advertising, digital newsletters, social media, video scripts, etc.), and develop promotional and brand content for traditional and digital consumption to increase national and international visibility.

Being embedded in the operations of CAES, this position will work closely with our public relations, creative design, and editorial teams to contribute to the planning and strategic development of high-level, high-visibility projects and will develop and implement social media strategies to grow and maintain engagement with our online constituent community.

This position encourages creativity and requires originality and talent that must be proven by quality writing and digital marketing samples. Additionally, this position requires the ability to travel when needed for relevant conferences, events, or on-site visits for content creation. This position will also be responsible for holding a pcard.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
CAES OMC is a Macintosh-based design environment. The ideal candidate is:
  • Skilled with web platforms such as WordPress, Shorthand, or similar content management systems.
  • Familiar with social media scheduling platform (Sprout, Hootsuite, HubSpot, etc.)
  • Familiar with project management software (Asana, Monday, etc.).
  • Possesses an understanding of HTML, SEO, and PDF + Section 508 web accessibility standards
  • Comfortable working with Canva as well as Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adept at working on multiple projects simultaneously within a matrixed organization with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written skills.
  • Knowledgeable about digital newsletter and SEO trends.
  • Experienced with podcast support or production
  • Experienced in producing or creating video content for social media or various brand needs.

Duties/Responsibilities

Social media (30%)
  • Working closely with the UGA Extension Digital Marketing Strategist, this role will create and disseminate marketing and social media toolkits for internal and external use
  • Manage the CAES social media calendar to create and schedule engaging content for all CAES social media outlets (including but not limited to Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and LinkedIn) to promote CAES news, stories, events and other content
  • Develop and execute paid media strategies for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube and Google as well as monitor ad performance, adjusting strategies to optimize ROI
  • Work closely and oversee a CAES student worker(s) to create and schedule accessible and compelling social media content

Duties/Responsibilities
Digital marketing (40%)
  • Collaborates with CAES stakeholders and cross-functional internal department teams to conceive and help implement multi-media marketing campaigns that may involve websites, paid search, mass media, banner advertising, email, print collateral, special event, and social media
  • Partner with third-party vendors to develop, execute and optimize targeted paid media campaigns with partner media outlets
  • Manage paid media budget, organizing and handling receipts and assist in the accounting process with the CAES OMC business manager and administrative coordinator
  • Work with CAES leadership, departments and units to identify organic and paid digital campaign priorities and advise on best allocation of funds
  • Work with CAES OMC graphic designers to create marketing collateral for CAES high-priority events or initiatives
  • Work with the CAES OMC editorial team to identify or create marketing content that is timely, engaging, and optimizes SEO for effective print collateral, publications, websites, and media outlets to elevate CAES' brand visibility
  • Manage the CAES internal and external digital newsletter strategy as well as create and disseminate newsletters. This responsibility includes: Developing and collecting content; working with leadership to create and edit updates; partnering with CAES OMC videographer to finalize videos as needed; updating UGA CRM with new employee information to maintain the audience list; and documenting key newsletter metrics
  • Collaborate on educational, news, and promotional videos with CAES OMC videographer including writing video scripts or captions as needed
  • Podcast production: While not required, this role has the opportunity to co-host and help produce the CAES Cultivating Curiosity Podcast

Marketing & Web Content Strategy (20%)
  • Determine website priorities for CAES based on overall marketing strategies and partner with the CAES Office of Informational Technology (OIT) to improve the CAES website marketing tactics; furthermore, support the current transition that CAES is undertaking to build out and implement a new website strategy by partnering with a third-party public relations firm and OIT
  • Partner with OIT to implement digital marketing strategy and create compelling content across various CAES websites with strong SEO and accessibility strategies
  • Identify web content best suited for promotion, amplifying through social media, newsletters, and paid advertising campaigns

Reporting and training (10%)
  • Analyze web traffic metrics and suggest solutions to boost web presence based on these metrics as well as forecast trends through monitoring of SEO/SEM
  • Report monthly KPIs on advertising, social media, and communication campaigns to the CAES Chief Communications Officer, adjusting strategy as needed to optimize ROI
  • Create internal quarterly reports (in collaboration with other CAES OMC team members) for the CAES Chief Communications Officer to showcase the effectiveness of various CAES-related marketing strategies
  • Serve and collaborate on internal CAES or campus-wide committees that require CAES digital marketing expertise and give professional input as needed
  • Train internal CAES faculty and staff as needed on digital newsletter and social media best practices
