About the College/Unit/Department
The Department of Human Development and Family Science provides leadership in the field via cutting edge research, pedagogy, and service. We are an interdisciplinary department focusing on individual, relationship, and family development within diverse ecological contexts. The department includes a Child Life Master's Program, Couple and Family Therapy Doctoral Program, Quantitative Methods in Family Science Certificate, and several dual degree opportunities (Double Dawgs). Faculty research interests and course offerings include infancy and childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, adult development and aging, parenting and caregiving, interpersonal relationships, health and biobehavioral processes, diversity and culture, and contexts of human development. We have a vibrant program with over 481 undergraduate majors, 48 graduate students, and 20 faculty operating in a collegial and supportive environment. We have a strong dedication to teaching and creating a sense of belonging for our faculty, staff, and students. Our dedication to student growth and continued excellence is reflected in numerous faculty teaching awards and is fostered by support at the department (e.g. mentorship), college (e.g. fellowships and trainings), and university (e.g. Center for Teaching and Learning, teaching and learning communities) levels.
