Position Summary
This incumbent will generate, maintain, differentiate and characterize animal-derived primary stem cells to develop organoid cultures. Additional responsibilities will involve culture-dependent or culture-independent microbiology and molecular microbiology on biologic tissues and establish protocols for genetic modification and perturbation of cellular pathways of organoids to understand the effect such modifications have on organoid growth, differentiation, survival, and inflammatory function. In addition, this person would maintain records, maintain equipment in proper working order, maintain inventory, order supplies, and ensure overall lab organization and safety compliance. This employee should be very organized and have good communication skills. All work will adhere to standard laboratory practices. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, designing and carry out research projects, directing daily operations of a team, and maintaining research protocol. Responsibilities may also include data collection, analysis, and interpretation, maintaining equipment, and presenting research findings to other staff.

This will be a one-year term position, with potential for renewal based on performance and availability of funding.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develops, designs, and conducts research to study canine primary stem cells and organoid cultures to perform various RNA and phenotypic screens.
  • Reviews progress and evaluates results of moderately complex research projects or experiments.
  • Formulates research methods for study of specific epithelial cell functions, and suggests options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions, and collaborates in the development of new techniques.
  • Assists with writing peer-reviewed publications and grants.
  • Trains users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explains and demonstrates technology and equipment capabilities, operations, limitations and outcomes.
  • Coordinates data collection and screening and verifies the data.
  • Conducts analysis of data, interprets and implements research methodology based on outcome of analysis

  • Clean, maintain and prepare supplies and work areas.
  • Lab maintenance to comply with all safety regulations of hazardous waste, biosafety, and chemical inventory of the laboratory.
  • Development and/or updating of biosafety and animal protocols.
  • Maintain research protocols, standard operating procedures and training manuals to support multiple research projects conducted by faculty, staff and students.
