Minimum Qualifications

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications
Experienced RVT able to work within Small Animal Emergency room, ICU or Intermediate Care required.
Preferred experience with Infectious Disease care within an Isolation unit
Preferred ability to work weekends, overnight shifts and holidays.
Position Summary
The Intermediate Care RVT is responsible for providing 24 hour nursing care to patients that are recovering from surgery or illness and are in the process of being released to return home to their owners.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Licensed or ability to be licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician within the state of Georgia. Able to utilize technical skills on all levels of patients that are recovering with the following: Collection of blood, urine by expression, cystocentesis or catheterization; collection and preparation of tissue, cellular, or microbiological samples by skin scraping, impressions; routine laboratory test procedures; radiology including settings, positioning, processing, and safety; intravenous and arterial catheterization; administration and application of treatments, drugs, fluids, medications and immunological agents by oral, parenteral and injectable routes. Induction and maintenance of anesthesia; placement of intra-nasal, intra-gastric tubes; euthanasia; resuscitative procedures; applications of splints and slings; application of appropriate wound dressings and external supportive care in severe wound and burn cases.
Physical Demands
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.
- Manual dexterity to work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery.
- Wear all protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles etc.
- Work with wound care equipment, cleaning solutions, and other materials to prevent infections.

Duties/Responsibilities
Patient Management: manages all aspects of the patient's treatment and care. Informs attending clinician on any change or decomposition of the patient's condition in an informed and timely manner. Provide intermediate animal care to patients: walk, water, feed, transport, restrain, groom. Lifting up to 50 lbs. or above. Administer medication, monitor vital signs, take samples of bodily fluids, whether blood or urine.
