About the College/Unit/Department
Part of the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing consists of nearly 2.8 million square feet of facilities and is home to more than 9,000 students. The department employs 220 full-time staff members, 21 graduate assistants and 565 undergraduate student workers. As a self-supporting auxiliary, University Housing operates a $59 million budget derived only from student housing fees and other non-state sources.
In support of its mission to provide comfortable, affordable and secure housing options where the academic success and personal growth of residents are encouraged and supported, University Housing engages staff members in competency-based training and students in curriculum-based engagement focused on community building, interpersonal skills, social awareness and responsibility, and well-being.

  • Support, communicate, enforce and abide by all university and department policies, procedures and regulations
  • Promote the value of living on campus
  • Capture photos of halls and student life with DSLR or phone camera
  • Conceptualize, create and post content on housing social media channels
  • Attend University Housing events to document on social media
  • Collaborate with student video producer(s) as needed to create video content for University Housing’s social media channels and website
  • Function as a resource for accurate information concerning housing and university operations
  • Participate in training and in-service activities
  • Participate in meeting activities including, but not limited to: staff meetings, community staff meetings, committees, and one-on-one meetings with supervisor
  • Perform other duties consistent with the purpose of the position as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Position Summary
The housing ambassador’s main role is to generate content for University Housing social media channels. Housing ambassadors will attend events, take candid photos of student-life, and prepare and post these materials to social media. They are also responsible for keeping up with language, memes and other trends that can be used to effectively relate to the student body.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position
  • Demonstrated experience with social media for a brand
  • Preference will be given to candidates planning to reside on campus for the upcoming academic year

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  1. Will be enrolled on at least a half-time basis at the University of Georgia when classes are in session (i.e., enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours for undergraduate and professional students during fall/spring semesters; enrolled in a minimum of five credit hours for graduate students during fall/spring semesters). Credit hour minimums during the summer terms and during the last semester before graduation may be different. Consult the University Housing Human Resources office for additional information.
  2. Will be in good standing with the Office of Student Conduct and University Housing. Good standing is defined as not being found responsible for policy violations that would interfere with the ability to perform tasks typically assigned to student employees. Additionally, good standing means that the student employee has participated in the student conduct process if charged with any violations and completed any sanctions that may be assigned by the prescribed deadline.
  3. Will not exceed 20 hours of work per week across all student staff positions if positions are held in multiple departments, except when classes are not in session and the student employee has prior permission from the supervisor. This includes online training, staff meetings and one-on-ones.
  4. Will not exceed 6 consecutive hours of work per shift.
  5. Student employees are considered temporary employees. A temporary employee may be separated at any time for any reason without notice and either the employer or the employee can end the employment relationship.
