Position Summary | The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia is searching for 2 undergraduate students to conduct research related to forest business. Specifically, projects will involve harvest systems evaluation, silvicultural practices, and environmental impact assessments. Interested students should be current undergraduates in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and have interest in applied forestry and field data collection. The internship is open to all Warnell majors. The successful candidates will work in a team setting. Day-to-day activities would consist of travel, data collection and analysis around timber harvest sites, and other duties as assigned. The position will be based in Athens, GA and most data collection will be conducted in Georgia, but some overnight travel to nearby states may be required. All travel expenses will be covered by Warnell. These positions provide a great opportunity to explore new areas of the state, meet industry professionals, and become familiar with general forestry practices. |
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position | Interested students should be current undergraduates in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and have interest in applied forestry and field data collection. The internship is open to all Warnell majors. Students attending field camp in May are still eligible. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies | Preferred Qualifications (Not Required): • Knowledge of basic field measurements (e.g., FANR 3000, FORS 4050, or equivalent) • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Experience using common natural resources tools (e.g., clinometers, range finders, compasses, etc.) |
