Position Summary
The Department of Poultry Science at the University of Georgia is seeking applications for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Poultry Science with primary responsibilities in poultry processing, product quality and safety. This is a nine-month, academic-year tenure track position with a 75% Research, 20% Instructional, and 5% service appointment. This position will report to the Department Head. Successful applicants will be expected to establish innovative, nationally-recognized research and teaching programs. Potential research foci could include, but are not limited to, processing methods and equipment, poultry product quality, microbiology and food safety, quality of conversion of muscle to poultry products, factors influencing poultry product quality, and other areas of critical importance to the future of the poultry sector.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous, high-impact, extramurally funded research program that advances subsequent poultry/avian science research, education, and poultry sector innovation. The successful candidate is also expected to extensively collaborate and work cooperatively with other scientists within the Department, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the University of Georgia, as well as other land-grant and non-land-grant Universities in the US and globally; effectively support our teaching mission at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and contribute to enriching our institutional missions of teaching, research, and service. Specific teaching assignments will be negotiated, but are expected to be commensurate with a 25% instructional appointment.

The position will be located at the University of Georgia Campus in Athens, Georgia. The University of Georgia (UGA) (www.uga.edu) is a preeminent Land Grant institution located 70 miles northeast of Atlanta with excellent opportunities for collaboration with faculty that have diverse research interests. The Department of Poultry Science has exceptional research and live bird facilities, including a hatchery, feed mill, pilot-scale poultry processing and further processing facility, and a poultry products food-safety intervention validation facility. Opportunities for collaboration exist within the department and across UGA units such as animal/dairy science, food science, engineering, veterinary and biomedical sciences, poultry health and diagnostics as well as local USDA-ARS scientists. With 29 processing and further processing facilities for broiler meat, several egg products facilities, and the largest shipping port in the US for poultry exports, this position is key to the success of the poultry sector.

To be considered for the rank of Associate Professor, candidates should demonstrate clear and convincing evidence of emerging stature as a regional or national authority as appropriate for the position. To be eligible for tenure on appointment, candidates must be appointed as an Associate Professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrable national reputation to the institution. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Candidates should have a background in meat processing, animal product quality assessment, microbiology, muscle biology, food engineering, or food safety. Candidates with a demonstrated record of collaborative research, extramural grant success, program development contributions, and student mentorship are preferred.

Strong organizational, interpersonal (written and oral) and demonstrated collaborative skills are also preferred.
