Duties/Responsibilities | - Participate in full-time research program as agreed upon with PI - Conceptualize, design, implement and troubleshoot research protocols; adapt new procedures and develop new computational approaches and methods as appropriate - Maintain clear and timely records - Collect, prepare and analyze research data; maintain computer database of research data; contribute to project design and group meetings. tabulate and display data for presentation in research conferences, for manuscript preparation and grant submission; use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data - Contribute to research meetings and progress reports for funders and collaborators - Reading and researching literature, manuscript preparation of research findings. Assist in grant writing - Supervise other personnel in to coordinate group research efforts, participate in training of students, visiting researchers and volunteer workers as needed |

Position Summary | Multiple post-doctoral positions are available in the Bahl Lab within the Center for Applied Pathogen Genomic Epidemiology and Outbreak Response (CAPE) working on molecular epidemiology and phylodynamics of RNA viruses. NIH, CDC and NSF funded projects include investigations of SARS-CoV-2 transmission across biological scales (in collaboration with the multiple public health labs) and molecular epidemiological studies using environmental and clinical surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 (in collaboration with Lipp and Glenn Labs); Ecology and Evolution of influenza A virus, including studies on avian influenza with pandemic potential, epidemiological modeling of seasonal influenza (in collaboration with NIH-NIAID CEIRR network and CDC), and prediction of antigenic evolution (in collaboration with Rohani and Drake Labs). These positions are ideally suited to people with a PhD in evolutionary biology, infectious disease epidemiology, mathematical modelling or a related quantitative discipline. The ideal candidate should be an independent worker, capable of supervising PhD students, comfortable with a suitable programming language (i.e. R/python/java) and familiar with comparative genomic methods (RaxML, BEAST/BEAST2 packages). We are a highly collaborative team working on multiple projects simultaneously. Work with others to support project development is critical. Proficiency in academic writing and oral communication would be advantageous. Additional duties include designing, organizing and conducting advanced studies on disease epidemiology, evolution, emergence and persistence using established protocols, and designing new protocols when needed; summarizing findings and publishing results in research journals; assuming general responsibility for scientific operations of the various ongoing projects; providing supervision and guidance to students, and visiting researchers. Post-doctoral trainees will have the opportunity to contribute to new proposals. |
